Yahoo launches Group Messaging app Hub for Android

Yahoo has launched a new Group Messaging app, Hub for Android. This would let the users send text messages and have group conversations over Wi-Fi or using your data connection from their Android phone to other phones or users with Hub app for free. You can also add participants to any conversation thread just by adding their mobile phone numbers.

Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu Job Mela in Hyderabad

The Government of Andhra Pradesh is conducting mega Job Mela (Job Fair) at Hyderabad on 8th and 13th of December 2011. The Job Mela will be conducted at Government ITI campus, Masab Tank, Hyderabad. The Job Mela is part of the ongoing Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu, a scheme intended to provide employment opportunities for educated youth in the state. The Government of Andhra Pradesh has announced that about 3150 jobs from the categories such as security guards to marketing executives will be offered to eligible candidates in the Job Melas. Depending on the job category, educational qualifications for different posts will be from class 10 / SSC to Degree.

The official statistics are indicating that the programme is drawing good response from the youth in the state. The official website is available at ryk.cgg.gov.in . The website has crossed 15 lakh visitors. The candidates have to register for the Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu programme with relevant documents. Candidates who want to enroll for Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu should produce ration card. This is a mandatory for all the Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu applications.

Along with relevant academic and other documents for the job applied, ration card, date of birth proof and mobile number are compulsory fields to be filled during the online registration for Rajiv Yuva kiranalu. The main aim of the programme is to provide 15 lakh employment opportunities by 2015 under Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu scheme. The Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu was designed under Rajiv Gandhi Education and Employment Mission of Andhra Pradesh (REEMAP) for training for skill development, urban and rural poverty elimination and empowerment. Professor K.C. Reddy, ex-chairman of APSCHE is serving as Vice-Chairman of REEMAP.

On Friday we took the day off to visit Hood River in the Columbia river gorge, home to Rochibaud Batten Systems.We took a factory tour to check out their manufacturing process, meetthe staff and show them a few of our packs. How to Effectively Whiten Underarms the Natural Way

Dark underarms can be caused by many things and it varies from oneindividual to another. There are lot of beauty products on the markettoday, but getting rid of the problem naturally is still the best andmost effective way.

Before proceeding with the steps, let me give you some important guidelines:

1. Do not shave nor pluck the unwanted hairs inyour underarms. Instead, use wax or have a laser hair removal. If youinsist on using razors, shave after your night bath and apply agenerous amount of olive oil / skin moisturizer on your underarms.

2. Always wear clothes made of 100% cotton. Avoid wearing tight silks, or any clothes that can’t absorb sweat.

3. Avoid using deodorants or anti-perspirants. Use tawas to avoid excessive sweating and foul odor.

4. Drink water regularly to wash out the toxins from your body and reduce dryness on the skin.

5. Watch your diet. This condition often occurs to people who are overweight.

Here are the things you need on the process:

1. Calamansi (or Lemon)

2. Skin Moisturizer

3. Papaya Soap

4. Anti-Bacterial Soap

5. Soft Towel

Steps (Do this twice a day to achieve faster results):

1. Cut 2 calamansi (one if lemon). Rub those calamansi on your underarms. Let it dry for 30 minutes to one hour.

2. Rinse. Use anti-bacterial soap and massageyour underarms for 60 seconds. Rinse. Use papaya soap and leave it for30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

3. Pat dry the underarms with soft towel. Do not rub the area.

4. Apply a good skin moisturizer in the area (dothis only at night time). Do not apply anything during day time. Ifyou’re experiencing excessive sweating, pat dry your underarmsregularly with soft towel or you can use baby powder.

Results may be seen after a month or two, depending on your skin.

Important Note: This may not work to those people who have black underarms caused by some medical conditions.

Cochi Fort, India

Cochi (Kochi) is a town made of three islands connected by bridgesand ferries. To get to Cochi fort we took a ferry from the main landacross some tidal races. Much of the city is a port or naval base, soparts are very industrial but still interesting and beautiful in thereown way.

When you get to the fort the main attraction is the fishing community and promenade.

The Chinese fishing nets were more of a tourist attraction as they only put them in the water when you paid them.

The fishing nets are not in commercial use these days as they arequite ineffective, they are baited then lowered in the water thenlifted out of the water hopefully with fish in.
There is little else in Cochi, it is a small town in which the fortarea is prominent. There are dozens of trinket shops for tourists so wedid some window shopping.
We headed to Cochi airport the next day, where we flew to the north– 13 hours, 3 flights and 4 airports, but decidedly better than the 4day, 5 train and 6 railway stations option! (and we got to eat airportMcDonalds all day as a little treat!)

9 Tips For Better Sleep

Whenever I see a toddler or small animal sleeping in a ridiculous position, a little part of me gets terribly jealous. Not because I want to be a small child or a furry kitten. Because I want to enjoy that same sort of rest!

I had a lot of trouble sleeping a few years back. Through a lot of experimentation and a bit of help from some very cool experts, I was able to take charge of my sleep and learn how to not just sleep, but find true rest.

At first glance, most of the tips listed below will seem familiar to you. They’re straightforward, simple ways to get better sleep. It’s okay if you’ve seen them before. The question is, have you actually put them into practice since the last time you saw them?

If not, let’s have another try and maybe get some better sleep tonight!
1. Learn your sleep position

Your “sleep position” is the position you always move into right before falling asleep. If I’m not very tired I’ll spend some time on my back, stomach, or other scenario until I feel like sleeping. Then, as soon as I feel like sleeping, I move onto my side and get down to sleeping business. Once you know your sleep position you can move into it immediately once you get into bed. Take a few deep breaths, relax, and your body will assume that it’s time to sleep and you’ll be drooling on your pillow in no time.
2. Create a sleep ritual

Not unlike your morning ritual, a sleep ritual is a few things you always do before going to sleep. Do you brush your teeth (you should be), listen to a bit of some favorite song, or stretch for a few minutes before bed? Figure out what helps you relax and make a habit of doing those things every time before you plan to sleep. You’ll soon find it’s easier to rest, even in circumstances that otherwise might have kept you awake, because the rhythm of your sleep ritual has lulled you into a relaxed state.
3. Build a sleep cocoon

Please don’t start spinning silk and wrapping yourself up to sleep. If you can actually do that, your problems are much bigger than a simple lack of sleep! (Do spiders sleep? Anyone?) What you should try is creating a “cocoon” of silence and cool darkness that makes it easier for you to sleep. Experiment a bit with earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones to counteract the loud neighbors, air conditioning or a fan, and a blackout curtain to keep the street lights from keeping you awake at night. You know your situation best. Now optimize it so you can sleep better!
4. Experiment with naps

You could take an extreme and try polyphasic sleep (been there, really hard to get started, kinda fun once you’ve got a groove going) which is only naps. I’d recommend something more along the lines of a quick cat nap in the afternoon when you’re feeling tired. Napping doesn’t work for everybody. In fact, it might make it harder for you to sleep at night! The easiest way to find out if an afternoon nap will work to help you get the best rest is to try napping over a weekend and see how you feel afterward. Keep it under 30 minutes long and you should be able to avoid the bewildering effects of longer naps. There’s always the caffeine nap, but that might conflict with the next tip.
5. Skip the late-afternoon caffeine

If caffeine can affect you for up to 8 hours after consumption, what are you doing sucking down coffee at 8pm? Skip the caffeine in favor of a tall glass of water and a few minutes of aerobic exercise. You don’t need to put on a purple leotard and dance in the hallway. A few flights of stairs in your normal clothes should do the trick.
6. Maintain a sleep schedule

“Get up at the same time every morning and go to sleep at the same time every night” says the Mayo Clinic. Seriously? Life rarely allows such a luxury as that! If you’re not one of the few who can arrange their schedule around sleep, do your best by keeping your sleep and wake times within an hour at each end. For example, if you can get to bed between 11pm-midnight and wake up between 7am-8am, a few minutes given or taken each day shouldn’t be a problem in the long run.
7. Go to directly to bed when you’re tired

You know what happens when you start to feel tired and decide to stay up for just a few minutes answering emails: you get a second wind and end up watching Youtube videos until 3am and paying for it the following day. Enough! If you’re within an hour of your normal bed time and you’re feeling tired, go to bed and try to sleep. Anything else is a waste of your time and future productivity.
8. Have clean bedding you love

“Love” might be too strong a word. It’s hard to find anybody other than a mattress salesperson who sounds passionate about a mattress. That doesn’t mean your bedding doesn’t matter though. The clean part, which results from laundering your sheets and pillowcases, matters very much though. Who doesn’t like the smell and feel of freshly clean sheets? (Put your hand down. That’s gross.) Take a look at your pillow, too. If it’s old and the filling is clumping up, it might be time to treat yourself to a new one.
9. Exercise early, don’t eat late

Two tips in one? What a deal! There are some who can exercise right before bed and not have it affect their sleep. If you’re one of those, good for you. If not, consider exercising when you get up in the morning as a healthy way to get your day off to a running start. Exercise, amazingly enough, can also work well to fight off the fatigue
you feel after sitting in an office chair all day. Turn away from the coffee and get moving! You might associate eating with feeling sleepy because of the “carb coma” you get after a big meal. Take a break from the late-night stuffing and focus on relaxing instead. Perhaps a glass of wine? That’d be nice.

Are you someone who likes to grow? Do you constantly seek to improve yourself and become better?

If you do, then we have something in common. I’m very passionate about personal growth. It was just 4 years ago when I discovered my passion for growing and helping others grow. At that time, I was 22 and in my final year of university. As I thought about the meaning of life, I realized there was nothing more meaningful than to pursue a life of development and betterment. It is through improving ourselves that we get the most out of life.

After 1.5 years of actively pursuing growth and helping others to grow through my personal development blog, I realize there is never an end to the journey of self improvement. The more I grow, the more I realize there is so much out there I don’t know, so much that I have to learn. For sure, there is always something about ourselves we can improve on. The human potential is limitless, so it’s impossible to reach a point of no growth. Whenever we think we are good, we can be even better.

As a passionate advocate of growth, I’m continuously looking for ways to self-improve. I’ve compiled 42 of my best tips which might be helpful in your personal growth journey. Some of them are simple steps which you can engage in immediately. Some are bigger steps which takes conscious effort to act on. Here they are:

1. Read a book every day. Books are concentrated sources of wisdom. The more books you read, the more wisdom you expose yourself to. What are some books you can start reading to enrich yourself? Some books I’ve read and found useful are Think and Grow Rich, Who Moved My Cheese, 7 Habits, The Science of Getting Rich and Living the 80/20 Way. I’ve heard positive reviews for The Tipping Point, Outliers and The Difference Maker, so I’ll be checking them out soon.
2. Learn a new language. As a Singaporean Chinese, my main languages are English, Mandarin and Hokkien (a Chinese dialect). Out of interest, I took up language courses in the past few years such as Japanese and Bahasa Indonesian. I realized learning a language is a whole new skill altogether and the process of acquainting with a new language and culture is a totally a mind-opening experience.
3. Pick up a new hobby. Beyond just your usual favorite hobbies, is there something new you can pick up? Any new sport you can learn? Examples are fencing, golf, rock climbing, football, canoeing, or ice skating. Your new hobby can also be a recreational hobby. For example, pottery, Italian cooking, dancing, wine appreciation, web design, etc. Learning something new requires you to stretch yourself in different aspects, whether physically, mentally or emotionally.
4. Take up a new course. Is there any new course you can join? Courses are a great way to gain new knowledge and skills. It doesn’t have to be a long-term course – seminars or workshops serve their purpose too. I’ve been to a few workshops and they have helped me gain new insights which I had not considered before.
5. Create an inspirational room. Your environment sets the mood and tone for you. If you are living in an inspirational environment, you are going to be inspired every day. In the past, I didn’t like my room at all because I thought it was messy and dull. A few years ago, I decided this was the end of it – I started on a “Mega Room Revamp” project and overhauled my room. The end result? A room I totally relish being in and inspires me to be at my peak every day.
6. Overcome your fears. All of us have fears. Fear of uncertainty, fear of public speaking, fear of risk… All our fears keep us in the same position and prevent us from growing. Recognize that your fears reflect areas where you can grow. I always think of fears as the compass for growth. If I have a fear about something, it represents something I’ve yet to address, and addressing it helps me to grow.
7. Level up your skills. If you have played video games before especially RPGs, you’ll know the concept of leveling up – gaining experience so you can be better and stronger. As a blogger, I’m constantly leveling up my writing skills. As a speaker, I’m constantly leveling up my public engagement abilities. What skills can you level up?
8. Wake up early. Waking up early (say, 5-6am) has been acknowledged by many (Anthony Robbins, Robin Sharma, among other self-help gurus) to improve your productivity and your quality of life. I feel it’s because when you wake up early, your mindset is already set to continue the momentum and proactively live out the day. Seth recently wrote a waking up early series which you should check out to help cultivate this habit.
9. Have a weekly exercise routine. A better you starts with being in better physical shape. I personally make it a point to jog at least 3 times a week, at least 30 minutes each time. You may want to mix it up with jogging, gym lessons and swimming for variation.
10. Start your life handbook. A life handbook is an idea I started 3 years ago. Basically, it’s a book which contains the essentials on how you can live your life to the fullest, such as your purpose, your values and goals. Sort of like your manual for your life. I started my life handbook since 2007 and it’s been a crucial enabler in my progress.
11. Write a letter to your future self. What do you see yourself as 5 years from now? Will you be the same? Different? What kind of person will you be? Write a letter to your future self – 1 year from now will be a good start – and seal it. Make a date in your calendar to open it 1 year from now. Then start working to become the person you want to open that letter.
12. Get out of your comfort zone. Real growth comes with hard work and sweat. Being too comfortable doesn’t help us grow – it makes us stagnate. What is your comfort zone? Do you stay in most of the time? Do you keep to your own space when out with other people? Shake your routine up. Do something different. By exposing yourself to a new context, you’re literally growing as you learn to act in new circumstances.
13. Put someone up to a challenge. Competition is one of the best ways to grow. Set a challenge (weight loss, exercise, financial challenge, etc) and compete with an interested friend to see who achieves the target first. Through the process, both of you will gain more than if you were to set off on the target alone.
14. Identify your blind spots. Scientifically, blind spots refer to areas our eyes are not capable of seeing. In personal development terms, blind spots are things about ourselves we are unaware of. Discovering our blind spots help us discover our areas of improvement. One exercise I use to discover my blind spots is to identify all the things/events/people that trigger me in a day – trigger meaning making me feel annoyed/weird/affected. These represent my blind spots. It’s always fun to do the exercise because I discover new things about myself, even if I may already think I know my own blind spots (but then they wouldn’t be blind spots would they?). After that, I work on steps to address them.
15. Ask for feedback. As much as we try to improve, we will always have blind spots. Asking for feedback gives us an additional perspective. Some people to approach will be friends, family, colleagues, boss, or even acquaintances, since they will have no preset bias and can give their feedback objectively.
16. Stay focused with to-do lists. I start my day with a list of tasks I want to complete and this helps make me stay focused. In comparison, the days when I don’t do this end up being extremely unproductive. For example, part of my to-do list for today is to write a guest post at LifeHack.Org, and this is why I’m writing this now! Since my work requires me to use my computer all the time, I use Free Sticky Notes to manage my to-do lists. It’s really simple to use and it’s a freeware, so I recommend you check it out.
17. Set Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs). I’m a big fan of setting BHAGs. BHAGs stretch you beyond your normal capacity since they are big and audacious – you wouldn’t think of attempting them normally. What are BHAGs you can embark on, which you’ll feel absolutely on top of the world once you complete them? Set them and start working on them.
18. Acknowledge your flaws. Everyone has flaws. What’s most important is to understand them, acknowledge them, and address them. What do you think are your flaws? What are the flaws you can work on now? How do you want to address them?
19. Get into action. The best way to learn and improve is to take action. What is something you have been meaning to do? How can you take action on it immediately? Waiting doesn’t get anything done. Taking action gives you immediate results to learn from.
20. Learn from people who inspire you. Think about people you admire. People who inspire you. These people reflect certain qualities you want to have for yourself too. What are the qualities in them you want to have for yourself? How can you acquire these qualities?
21. Quit a bad habit. Are there any bad habits you can lose? Oversleeping? Not exercising? Being late? Slouching? Nail biting? Smoking? Here’s some help on how you can quit a bad habit.
22. Cultivate a new habit. Some good new habits to cultivate include reading books (#1), waking up early (#8), exercising (#9), reading a new personal development article a day (#40) and meditating. Is there any other new habit you can cultivate to improve yourself?
23. Avoid negative people. As Jim Rohn says, “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with”. Wherever we go, there are bound to be negative people. Don’t spend too much of your time around them if you feel they drag you down.
24. Learn to deal with difficult people. There are times when there are difficult people you can’t avoid, such as at your workplace, or when the person is part of your inner circle of contacts. Learn how to deal with them. These people management skills will go a long way in working with people in the future.
25. Learn from your friends. Everyone has amazing qualities in them. It’s up to how we want to tap into them. With all the friends who surround you, they are going to have things you can learn from. Try thinking of a good friend right now. Think about just one quality they have which you want to adopt. How can you learn from them and adopt this skill for yourself? Speak to them if you need to – for sure, they will be more than happy to help!
26. Start a journal. Journaling is a great way to gain better self-awareness. It’s a self-reflection process. As you write, clarify your thought process and read what you wrote from a third person’s perspective, you gain more insights about yourself. Your journal can be private or an online blog. I use my personal development blog as a personal journal too and I’ve learned a lot about myself through the past year of blogging.
27. Start a blog about personal development. To help others grow, you need to first be walking the talk. There are expectations of you, both from yourself and from others, which you have to uphold. I run The Personal Excellence Blog, where I share my personal journey and insights on how to live a better life. Readers look toward my articles to improve themselves, which enforces to me that I need to keep improving, for myself and for the people I’m reaching out to.
28. Get a mentor or coach. There’s no faster way to improve than to have someone work with you on your goals. Many of my clients approach me to coach them in their goals and they achieve significantly more results than if they had worked alone.
29. Reduce the time you spend on chat programs. I realized having chat programs open at default result in a lot of wasted time. This time can be much better spent on other activities. The days when I don’t get on chat, I get a lot more done. I usually disable the auto start-up option in the chat programs and launch them when I do want to chat and really have the time for it.
30. Learn chess (or any strategy game). I found chess is a terrific game to learn strategy and hone your brainpower. Not only do you have fun, you also get to exercise your analytical skills. You can also learn strategy from other board games or computer games, such as Othello, Chinese Chess, WarCraft, and so on.
31. Stop watching TV. I’ve not been watching TV for pretty much 4 years and it’s been a very liberating experience. I realized most of the programs and advertisements on mainstream TV are usually of a lower consciousness and not very empowering. In return, the time I’ve freed up from not watching TV is now constructively used for other purposes, such as connecting with close friends, doing work I enjoy, exercising, etc.
32. Start a 30-day challenge. Set a goal and give yourself 30 days to achieve this. Your goal can be to stick with a new habit or something you’ve always wanted to do but have not. 30 days is just enough time to strategize, plan, get into action, review and nail the goal.
33. Meditate. Meditation helps to calm you and be more conscious. I also realized that during the nights when I meditate (before I sleep), I need lesser sleep. The clutter clearing process is very liberating.
34. Join Toastmasters (Learn public speaking). Interestingly, public speaking is the #1 fear in the world, with #2 being death. After I started public speaking as a personal development speaker/trainer, I’ve learned a lot about how to communicate better, present myself and engage people. Toastmasters is an international organization that trains people in public speaking. Check out the Toastmaster clubs nearest to you here.
35. Befriend top people in their fields. These people have achieved their results because they have the right attitudes, skill sets and know-how. How better to learn than from the people who have been there and done that? Gain new insights from them on how you can improve and achieve the same results for yourself.
36. Let go of the past. Is there any grievance or unhappiness from the past which you have been holding on? If so, it’s time to let it go. Holding on to them prevents you from moving on and becoming a better person. Break away from the past, forgive yourself, and move on. Just recently, I finally moved on from a past heartbreak of 5 years ago. The effect was liberating and very empowering, and I have never been happier.
37. Start a business venture. Is there anything you have an interest in? Why not turn it into a venture and make money while learning at the same time? Starting a new venture requires you to be learn business management skills, develop business acumen and have a competitive edge. The process of starting and developing my personal development business has equipped me with many skills, such as self-discipline, leadership, organization and management.
38. Show kindness to people around you. You can never be too kind to someone. In fact, most of us don’t show enough kindness to people around us. Being kind helps us to cultivate other qualities such as compassion, patience, and love. As you get back to your day after reading this article later on, start exuding more kindness to the people around you, and see how they react. Not only that, notice how you feel as you behave kindly to others. Chances are, you will feel even better than yourself.
39. Reach out to the people who hate you. If you ever stand for something, you are going to get haters. It’s easy to hate the people who hate us. It’s much more challenging to love them back. Being able to forgive, let go and show love to these people requires magnanimity and an open heart. Is there anyone who dislikes or hates you in your life? If so, reach out to them. Show them love. Seek a resolution and get closure on past grievances. Even if they refuses to reciprocate, love them all the same. It’s much more liberating than to hate them back.
40. Take a break. Have you been working too hard? Self-improvement is also about recognizing our need to take a break to walk the longer mile ahead. You can’t be driving a car if it has no petrol. Take some time off for yourself every week. Relax, rejuvenate and charge yourself up for what’s up ahead.
41. Read at least 1 personal development article a day. Some of my readers make it a point to read at least one personal development article every day, which I think is a great habit. There are many terrific personal development blogs out there, some of which you can check here.
42. Commit to your personal growth. I can be writing list articles with 10 ways, 25 ways, 42 ways or even 1,000 ways to improve yourself, but if you’ve no intention to commit to your personal growth, it doesn’t matter what I write. Nothing is going to get through. We are responsible for our personal growth – not anyone else. Not your mom, your dad, your friend, me or LifeHack. Make the decision to commit to your personal growth and embrace yourself to a life-long journey of growth and change. Kick off your growth by picking a few of the steps above and working on them. The results may not be immediate, but I promise you that as long as you keep to it, you’ll start seeing positive changes in yourself and your life.

* Right click the desktop and choose New Shortcut. Copy and paste this script or type it in.

How to Make a RSS Feed from an existing Website

This tutorial shows how you can quickly make an RSS feed of any website without requring software or having to write a single line of XML code.
Among other benefits, adding an RSS feed to a regular website can help increase visibility and also boost site traffic because your web pages will now get indexed in blog search engines and online feed readers as well in addition to regular web search.

How to Make a RSS Feed from an existing Website

Let’s say you run a website "IceCreamFlavors.com" that sells about a dozen different ice-cream flavors online. This site is small with about 15-20 pages in all.
You created this website in the web 1.0 era using Frontpage and HTML but now you desperately want to have an RSS feed for this website so that customers can automatically know when you launch a new flavor or when there’s a new promotion running on the site.
Great idea but the only problem is that you are no geek and have absolutely no clue about RSS feeds. How do you then go about publishing XML web feeds for your site?

Generate RSS Feeds through Google Reader

Well, there’s a very popular tool that help you do all this for free – it’s called Google Reader. Here are the steps involved:
Step 1: Login to your Google Reader account and drag n’ drop the "note in reader" link from the web page into the bookmarks toolbar of your web browser. See screecast demo if this sound confusing.

Step 2: Manually open all the web pages of your Ice Cream site in the browser – you only to need to open pages that are to be included in the RSS feed so you can safely skip pages like "Contact Me", "Terms & Conditions", "Return Policy", etc.
Step 3: Now the real fun starts. For each page, select just the relevant content (i.e., text, images, embedded YouTube clips but no navigation areas) with your mouse and then press the "Note in Reader" button.

Step 4: A pop-up dialog will open in your browser as shown in the screenshot. Click "add tags" and assign some tag to this page (we use "website") for this example. Close the browser tab and repeat the same process for all other pages of your site – make sure you assign the same tag to each page.
Step 5: Go to Google Reader Settings => "Folders and Tags" and click that gray RSS icon next to the tag "website" to make it public. You’ll then see a new link that says "view public page" – copy the URL of that page to the clipboard.

We are almost done now. Go to FeedBurner, paste the URL in that feed box, click Next and give your RSS feed some nice title and an address. You can subscribe to this new feed address in Bloglines or Google Reader to see if things are working as expected – they should.
Later, when you add new pages to your ice cream website, you can easily distribute them via the RSS feed by just repeating steps #3 and #4. You may also add the following line of code to your HTML web pages (inside the tag) so that visitors may auto-discover your RSS feed:

But, your Pen Drive can serve some interesting purposes as well – some you wouldn’t have imagined about. Put it to some good use, here’s a quick list of what you can do with it:

1. Install a Linux Distro

Pen Drive Linux guides you through procedures on loading your USB Drive with a Linux Distro. If you’re a geek, you’ll love this setup. If you’re just a normal user, this may come to your use in a variety of situations – you go to a friend’s computer, which is infected with pesky viruses. You need not worry, boot with your Linux-loaded pen drive and do your job, safe and secure.

2. Install MojoPac

I usually don’t recommend software that you’ll have to pay for using, but this one is something I can’t resist myself from recommending to you dear readers. Yes, this is a wonderful app that’ll install itself into a pen drive, and run on top of Windows. You can run your favourite Windows apps, most of them run perfect on this MojoPac layer. The advantage is that none of the modified settings affect the original Windows over which your MojoPac is running on. Quite cool, isn’t it?

3. Automatic Backups

You’re probably using your USB Pen Drive as a backup device to hold your important documents, but why not make the process easier? Install Allway Sync or Microsoft SyncToy. Both can let you sync files on your computer with your USB Pen Drive with ease. You don’t have to do manual copy & paste files – just insert, click and you’re done.

4. Additional Memory

Vista can use your USB Flash Drive just like your RAM – such a capability is integrated into the OS. Windows XP just can’t use it as additional memory – your flash drive is just a flash drive. Not anymore if you have eBoostr installed. This software program aids XP in using your Flash Drive as a memory device. You might want to give this a try if your computer is hungry on resources and needs some speed boost.

5. Perfect for Gifts

Indeed, these funky USB Drives are perfect for gifts. There are lots of creative things you could do with it, and then present it to your loved one. If your friend is a businessman/freelancer who has to work with multiple computers, a USB Pen Drive can serve as a perfect gift for the person will have files to carry around. Forget the Windows Start Menu Use Toolbox instead.

The Windows start menu is not really excellent when you want to find something fast. It always takes some clicks to reach the destination – be it a program, the control panel or a drive that is connected to your computer. Toolbox was designed as a application launcher that makes it easier to access drives, folders and applications in Windows. It uses an intuitive way to display toolboxes that contain links to everything that you can think off. You can link to drives and display their size, launch applications with one click and open folders with another. Access to those elements can’t be faster in Windows.
The best thing is that you customize the toolboxes anyway you want. Add icons, make the toolbox transparent, let it remain always on top, use background images and much more to make it look the way you want it. I’m using it to display all of my drives and their free space in the left corner of my desktop. Clicking on a drive opens the root folder of that drive and displays the contents.

Toolbox is free and does not need to be installed at all. Just unpack it into a folder of your choice and run it from there. You can create two toolboxes that use predefined elements using the Wizard. One creates a toolbox with all of your drives and the other one with all your personal folders. If you do not want to use those you can create a new toolbox, change its size and add elements to it.
Looks good, feels good, one of the applications that I can recommend to every Windows user.

4 Applications That You Do Not Know (But Should)

Most computer users are happy with what they got. They use the same set of computer programs day in day out without spending a thought on the thousands of software programs that might be better suited for their needs. The majority are using the same programs. Winamp for music, Firefox for web browsing, Windows Media Player for videos, iTunes for managing the music collection, Gmail for email and so on. The following article will review four applications that you probably never heard about before that might replace installed applications or improve your computer experience in other ways.
F.Lux

I reviewed the computer monitor lighting solution a while ago and it is actually one of the few applications that run all the time on my main computer system. Flux changes the ~~brightness~~ color temperature of the computer display automatically. It uses a 24 hour graph to visualize the changes. The color temperature will be normal throughout the day and be lowered automatically as the day passes to adjust to the real world. You will love this application if you have to look at (to) bright computer screens especially in the evening and at night.
2. Speedfan

Speedfan is an interesting application to monitor system temperatures and control fan speeds. Users run usually in two scenarios. The first group thinks that their computer system makes to much noise while the second has to fight high temperatures that can lead to crashes and data loss. Speedfan can help both groups. It can lower the fan speed of connected computer fans automatically to reduce the overall noise level of the computer system. It can also warn the user if temperatures are reached that can cause damage and problems.
3. Drive Namer

Drive Namer is an excellent application to add names to optical drives such as DVD or CD drives. Windows is blocking the name changing on those drives by default which gets confusing if more than one optical drive is installed or virtual drives are used. All of the drives will be named DVD Drive or CD Drive. Drive Namer can change that name to something practical that helps identifying the drive at first glance.
4. Deltacopy

Windows Backup Software Deltacopy is a sophisticated backup software program that uses a client server approach which makes it ideal for computers located in a network.

The Value of Networking With Others

Creating an online network is a great way to take full advantage of all the knowledge and resources available to you? It’s a way of allowing yourself to learn from others while they learn from you.
The reason I bring this up is because I’ve been reflecting on how much I learn from those around me, and how much I value their contribution to my life. I wanted to take this opportunity to give credit where credit is due, and to say thank you to those in my network of bloggers.

The concept of an online network

Succeeding online requires an incredible array of different skills. If you’re a blogger, where do you go for help with the skills that you need to learn? The truth is, it doesn’t really matter whether you are a blogger, a parent, an entrepreneur, or just someone looking for ways to improve your life. Tapping into the resources around you by creating a network with others can be extremely beneficial for everyone involved.
Online we use the term network, but the same concept applies to our activities off-line as well. I remember when I first started blogging and I heard about the value of having a network of like-minded bloggers. I also remember thinking, “how in the world am I ever going to do that.” Have you had a similar experience?

My network of knowledge

Well, here we are two years later and somehow it’s happened. I now have the privilege of interacting with some wonderful online friends that constantly contribute to my ever-growing knowledge base and success. Today I want to express gratitude to those in my network, and to tell you a little bit about a few of them. Hopefully, this will encourage you to reach out to those around you, and to be willing to learn from them as I have.
Stephen Aitchison of Change Your Thoughts. Steve lives in Scotland and he’s been online for three years or so. We’ve become really good friends over the past year, and neither one of us ever hesitates to run new ideas by the other. As we discover new resources for improving our blogs, we share these. This includes the technical side like SEO, social media networking, and keywords, but it also includes article structure, blog design, and categories choices. He meticulously backs up his instincts with real world proof. I don’t hesitate to ask for his help in any of these areas, and he is always quick to respond. Dragos, I appreciate and highly value your input. As far as I’m concerned, your massive success as a personal development blogger is a certainty.
Kristi Hines of Kikolani. Kristi is nothing short of amazing. For one thing she’s unbelievably prolific. While covering a wide variety of topics, Kristi specializes in all things related to successful blogging, technical and otherwise. When I need help with anything technical she is the first person I turn to. When my blog got hacked, she quickly found the malicious code and walked me through the healing process. Building your network

It should be noted that I met and established relationships with each of these people either through social media interaction, or because they commented on my blog. And therein we find the key to building your own network, whether online or off. You must be willing to reach out and connect or nothing will happen.
Here are seven ways to start your network in the world of blogging.
1) Join a few social media sites and seek out those in your niche.
2) Leave meaningful comments on other people’s blogs.
3) When someone leaves a comment on your blog, reply.
4) Take the lead in connecting with others, don’t wait for them.
5) Look for ways to contribute, and be patient.
6) Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.
7) Be ready and willing to help those who ask you.

Stay open to possibility

You never really know which relationships will come to have the greatest value in your life. The only way to find out is to reach out. If you are willing to explore the vast territory of your chosen niche, you will find people to network with. As time goes by, you are sure to form valuable relationships with some of those people.
Remember, none of us succeeds on our own, and really, why would we even want to? Success is so much sweeter when we share it with others. I hope you’ve come to appreciate that there really is true and lasting value in creating your own online network.

Create Icons the Easy Way with SimplyIcon

Do you enjoy using custom made icons for your computer system but want a quick and simple way to make them yourself? Now you can with SimplyIcon!
Note: SimplyIcon requires the .NET Framework (version 2.0 or higher).
Setup
The is no install required with SimplyIcon. All that you need to do is unzip the two files (SimplyIcon.exe & FreeImage.dll), place them in a folder location of your choice, and create a shortcut for the program. This is the window that you will see once you start SimplyIcon.

To create custom icons, just drag-and-drop the image into SimplyIcon’s window area. The website states that SimplyIcon can create 128 x 128, 32 x 32, 24 x 24, and 16 x 16 size icons, but in one of our tests it was able to create a 48 x 48 pixels icon.
SimplyIcon creates a single icon (largest size possible depending on original file size) with the same name as the original. It will place the new icon into the folder or location where you have the original image stored.
Note: You will need images that are at least 128 x 128 pixels or larger to create nice “128 x 128” size icons.

Conclusion
SimplyIcon may not be the most elaborate icon making program out there, but it is certainly a nice little program to have around if you are needing to make icons quickly and easily.

Watch Live MMS TV Streams on Mobile

If you have good internet connection on your mobile, you can watch these streams on your mobile phones too. The following steps explain how to watch live mms streams on mobile phone.

I am going to explain how i watched mms stream on Nokia N97. For example I found this mms://online.ntdtvcast.com/Stream-Live mms stream on net. I watched this stream using windows media player on PC.

To watch in mobile, open default internet browser. open the mms url on the browser. Now automatically real player opens and play the live feed. You can watch rtsp (rtsp://) streams also like this way.

Some streams urls starts with http:// . for example that looks like this 'http://streamsite.tld/stream' . If you try to play this feed using above method. That will not work. Try removing "http://" with "mms://" in the url and follow the above.

Using this way you can watch Live TV Channels on mobile, if they provide MMS Stream.

Browse Indian Language (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu...) Web Pages in Mobile

Most of the mobile internet browsers does not support Indian languages like Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Mobiles does not support these fonts. All the text contents of the web page display with boxes.

Use opera mini to browse Indian languages web pages. Need to change simple setting to avail this feature.

First download opera mini package and install in your mobile. There are three options to get opera mini in mobile. Visit the address mini.opera.com using your phone’s default Internet browser and follow the instructions. Or goto download page use sms link option or pc download option.

After install the opera mini browser open that. In the address bar enter opera:config to access Power-User settings configuration page.

In that page, scroll down and select "YES" in "Use bitmap fonts for complex scripts menu" option. Then click save.

Thats all. Restart Opera mini browser. Now browse the Indian languages web pages. You can see contents without any font problem.

Depending on your internet connection you might be able to download a lot more (or a lot less) than 1Mb in two seconds - but calling this a post about apps under a meg just isn't quite as much fun!

No, you don't really need to pay too much attention to an application's hard drive footprint any more. After all, when you can buy a 1.5Tb drive for less than $150US, what difference does a few megs here or there make?

On the other hand, it's amazing to see what some developers are able to accomplish with a very small amount of code.

There are a ton of great, free applications that have been created in less than 1Mb - I didn't fully realize just how many until I started putting this list together. This is by no means a complete list, so if your favorite got overlooked make sure to share it in the comments!

Desktop/Shell Enhancements

Launchy (408Kb) - Hotkeys FTW! Launchy does more than hotkeys, of course, but even if you add a bucketload of plugins it's still under 1Mb.

Open++ (114Kb) - Helps you tweak your context menu six ways from Sunday. Pair it with another app like NirCmd for a nice one-two punch.

ViGlance (198Kb) - Want Windows 7's iconized taskbar in XP or Vista? ViGlance pulls it off in just under 200Kb. It also swaps the start button for the orb (on XP, of course) and does program grouping and pop-up window lists.

VirtuaWin (385Kb) - Most Linux distributions enable multiple virtual desktops by default. Windows doesn't support them out of the box - so you'll need an app like VirtuaWin. It's a good way to keep your workspace organized.

XNeat (797Kb) - No need to bother with separate apps to shuffle your taskbar icons, roll up windows, or add transparency. XNeat does it all in a single, tiny package. Also allows you to hide windows, minimize to tray, create keyboard shortcuts, and a whole lot more.

Encryption

DiskCryptor (740Kb) - One thing TrueCrypt can do that OmZiff can't is encrypt volumes. DiskCryptor can do it, too, and it's well under the 1Mb mark

LockNote (320Kb) - If the only thing you really want to encrypt are some private thoughts and notes, Steganos' GPL LockNote is a good choice.

OmZiff (408Kb) - Protecting sensitive data with encryption is never a bad idea. While OmZiff doesn't have the massive featureset of TrueCrypt, it's one-tenth the size and provides all the essential functions and includes a file shredder and password generator.

File Tools

7-Zip (919Kb) - Sure, 7-zip's main application window is ugly, but who uses it? All the archiving and extracting power you need is just a right-click away.

Everything (334Kb) - A great desktop search tool, Everything indexes your drive contents quicky and supports find-as-you-type. There's a portable version available as well, and it's even smaller.

FastCopy (194Kb) - Both FastCopy and TeraCopy are great, free apps that make copying and moving large amounts of data easier. For me, FastCopy wins because it's free for commercial use, Open Source, and about one quarter the size of TeraCopy.

Fling (230Kb) - Those cheap hard drives make an excellent place to back up and archive your files. Fling not only handles drive-to-drive sync, but it also plays well with FTP servers and USB flash drives. It's one of my favorite discoveries this year.

QDir (439Kb) - If you can get used to the multi-pane crazines, QDir is an awesome tool for manually managing your files and folders.

Space Sniffer (863Kb) - CCleaner does a great job of removing crap from your system, but sometimes you need to dig a little deeper. Space Sniffer helps you locate unwanted space hogs graphically.

Suction (180Kb) - One great way to keep mess to a minimum on your system is to consolidate similar directories - that's exactly what Suction does. It's portable, too!

WinCD Emu (783Kb) - Daemon Tools and Virtual CloneDrive are more well-known programs for mounting ISO images as virtual optical drives in Windows, but WinCD Emu provides almost the same functionality in a smaller package. It handles ISO, IMG, CUE, BIN, and RAW files.

Internet and Networking

Ammyy Admin (548Kb) - While it lacks TeamViewer's speed and bonus features, Ammyy still provides firewall-friendly remote control. There are no ports to open, and if trust is an issue you can run your own Ammyy router (85Kb) instead of using theirs.

GMail Notifier Plus (985Kb) - With kicked-up support for Windows 7's jumplists, this is a useful, sexy helper app for anyone with a GMail account.

Hamachi (989Kb) - Even though it's about 50% bigger than it used to be, Hamachi is still pretty dang small - and very useful. Its zero-config VPN makes remote access to your systems a breeze.

HydraIRC (949Kb) - The installer pushes HydraIRC over 1MB, but the portable version squeaks in under the wire. Features a tabbed interface, skin support, DCC chat and transfers, channel monitoring, and loads more.

iFTP (838Kb) - I love the second line from the developer's site: " I originally wrote i.Ftp to be the first freeware graphical client for BeOS, but someone beat me to it by a few days and well nobody notices who comes 2nd." That might be true, but he still put together a very capable FTP client with SFTP support.

NewsSifter (262Kb) - An intelligent RSS feed reader that analyzes new items based on content and sorts them into categories that you create.

Putty (444Kb) - Classic SSH/terminal client. 'Nuf said.

uTorrent (270Kb) - I've been using uTorrent as long as I've been downloading torrent files. It's got all the features I need in a client (and more) and it's well under the 1Mb mark even if you add the WebUI zip file. Sure, there are other options, but uTorrent takes it easy on my system resources and just gets the job done.

Wakoopa (309Kb) - A fun (and informative) social app, Wakoopa tracks your application usage and lets you see what programs other users are running. It's a great way to discover apps you may not have tried before.

Multimedia

Evil Player (537Kb) - A lightweight, minimal audio player, Evil Player support all the major formats and streams Icecast and Shoutcast (which can be recorded as well).

Fotografix (370Kb) - This little gem has generated quite a bit of buzz since I first wrote it up. It's an excellent lightweight Photoshop alternative, with features like layers, masks, filters, scripts, and editable type. If the developer's site is down, grab the file from Rapidspread.

Greenshot (160Kb) - An open source screen capture tool, Greenshot supports full screen, window, and selection captures, saving to multiple image formats, and annotations. Both a portable version and installer (404Kb) are available.

iDump (197Kb) - Need a free, portable app to backup the contents of an iPod? iDump is a good tool for the job, and it downloads in a flash - even on dial-up.

NCH Express Burn (390Kb) - ImgBurn is my default Windows burning application, but Express Burn sports a lot of the same features and packs them into a much smaller package.

VideoCacheView (65Kb) - It's hard to pick a single NirSoft app to list, because so many of Nir's utilities are under 1Mb and they're all handy. This one scours your browsers' cache files for FLVs and SWFs and allows you to save them for offline viewing.

Office and Productivity

ArsClip (986Kb) - A better clipboard manager with tons of configuration options and features. It's packaged as a zip and totally portable.

CintaNotes (365Kb) - drop it on your Flash drive, and CintaNotes provides an excellent way to collect snippets, links, and any other text data. It supports tagging and search-as-you-type.

Converber (253Kb) - Its unit-conversion super powers are tought to beat. You might not use Converber often, but it's small enough to keep around just in case.

KA TypeIn (920Kb) - A fantastic little app that lets you easily create and reuse text snippets. You can get advanced with it as well since it supports variables. Also does autocompletion.

List² (32kb) - You certainly don't need Excel to create very basic spreadsheet-style lists. This app is more than capable, and it takes up about as much space on your drive as the first page of Excel's help file.

TinyPDF (586Kb) - Just north of half a meg, and able to create good quality PDFs from any application via file > print. No longer freeware, but you can grab the last free installer from Freeware Files.

TinySpell (590kb) - Not all our favorite apps include a spellchecker. TinySpell fills the gaps and boasts a 110,00 word dictionary.

WinWorkBar (593Kb) - A productivity-boosting calendar and todo list / GTD application rolled into a sidebar (that can be set to autohide).

Utilities and Maintenance

CCleaner (979Kb) - One of the best file and registry cleanup tools around, and the portable version still still weighs in under 1Mb.

FileHippo Update Checker (154Kb) - FileHippo is a great place to download popular free applications. It's not cluttered with deceptive ads and the site is well-organized. The Updater is a smart way to keep your installers up-to-date.

HijackThis (793Kb) - A must-have for malware cleanup. I don't recommend HJT to casual users, but if you're a DIY-er with a good idea what should and shouldn't be in your registry, it belongs in your toolkit.

Magical Jellybean Keyfinder (367Kb) - Before you reformat your system it's a good idea to back up the product keys for your installed programs. Jellybean is a free, Open Source app that quickly digs up your keys and saves them to a TXT or CSV file.

NirCmd (86Kb) - I tried, but deep down I knew I couldn't get through this list without a second NirSoft app. NirCmd packs a ton of command-line Kung Fu in a single download.

Process Lasso (544Kb) - Gives you better control over the processes running on your system. If you're typically using loads of applications at once, Process Lasso can help keep your system running smoothly. Tweak things manually, or let ProBalance do the work for you.

UltraDefrag (374Kb) - A good defrag tool helps keep your hard drive running like clockwork. Under half a meg and open source, UltraDefrag even comes in 64-bit flavors and there's a micro build (as if 374Kb wasn't small enough already).

Unlocker (252Kb) - I hate trying to delete a file only to have Windows notify me that I can't because the file is in use. Unlocker provides a simple remedy to that problem.

Introduction

A file or disk catalog organizer helps index files stored on hard disks, removable media such as CDs, DVDs, USB drives or network drives in a few seconds and create catalogs for searching files without having access to the original media.
Some useful organizers provide searching capabilities based on file name, date and size, filtering options, or searching duplicates or singles, etc. These organizers save your precious time and effort in finding the files you want instantly from a collection of even thousands of files on your storage media.

Discussion

Cathy is a tiny portable program that catalogs files on removable media, or on your hard drive. Once indexed, you can quickly search and locate a file by name, size, and date, with additional search fields for MP3 files. Multiple catalogs are supported and you can also search for duplicate files. There is also a handy directory listing feature that allows you to print the contents of any folder.
The real strength of this program is its speed; it can index hundreds of thousands of files without a problem. This makes it handy for sysadmins as well as users with large file collections. Cathy doesn't index the contents of files, just file names and other file properties. If you want to search contents use a desktop search program.
Gentibus - "for the people" - is a very good name and choice if you're looking for a tool to organize your CD/DVD collection. The scan on CDs, DVDs or hard disks can be categorized and searched. The advanced search function will also find "Harry Po" if you're looking for "Harry Potter". Gentibus will find duplicates, smartly discovers image, audio, video and program files as 'super-categories' on its own, which comes very handy when you're archiving a medium with mixed content. A very pleasing feature is that Gentibus will show you thumbnails of any pictures you might have archived on your CD/DVD so you will be able to search them somewhat as a virtual CD.
Visual CD scans all the usual suspects in an explorer-like approach. The 'catalogs' contain the data of one medium, can be password protected and joined by favorites and also display the contents of zipped files. The search is very refined as you would expect in a competent file manager, complete with an 'extra' menu with very welcome features (dublicates, file splitter, thumbnail-maker, etc.) and the option menu allowing you to adjust the software to your needs.
Disclib is a terrific utility. I archive all of my projects to CD/DVD and keep them in a fireproof box for storage. But there are over 30 full discs now (half are DVDs), and many of them have multiple versions of the same project. Disclib keeps an index of the file/directory structure of every disc, so I can search through them all without having to swap 30 discs in my drive! Invaluable!

Step 1: Create a List of Items for the Drop Down

The first step in creating a drop down list is to type a list of items on the worksheet. In this example, you'll type a list of clothing items in cells E1:E5, on Sheet1. Later, you'll createthe drop down lists on the same worksheet.

Arrange the list in the order you want the items to appear in the drop down list. In our sample, the list is: Coat, Dress, Shirt, Pants, Hat.

Step 2: Select Cells for the Drop Down List

Now you're ready to create the drop down list. In this example, we are designing an order form. Customers might want to order several clothing items, so we'll add drop down lists in cells A2:A6.

1. Select cells A2:A6
2. On the Ribbon, click the Data tab
3. Click the Data Validation button
Note: If you're using Excel 2003, click the Data menu, then click Validation.

This will open the Data Validation dialog box.

Step 3: Create the Drop Down List

In the Data Validation dialog box, you'll enter the settings for your drop down list.

1. Click on the Settings tab.
2. In the Allow box, select List.
3. Click in the Source box, then on the worksheet, select cells E1:E5, where your typed list is entered.

Why is my computer so slow?

There's a number of reasons. Computers have a limited ammount of processing power, so a lot of programs running simultaneously can slow a computer down considerably. Another reason is that some operations that are performed on the computer's hardware are slow due to the design of the hardware. For example both the hard drive and RAM is used to store information, however, RAM is many times faster at storing information (it's drawback being that it only stores the information until you power off the system). As such disk operations such as checking files with an antivirus or defragmenting a hard drive, or checking the hard drive, slow down your system considerably, and even loading programs from the disk slows down your computer.

If you don't want all the hassle of messing with your computer in order to configure it, there's a great tool called Perfect Optimizer that tries to automatically optimize your computer in the best way possible. If you're interested in how to optimize your computer by hand, read on!

Step 0: Make sure you don't have any viruses!

What's it good for: general well-being!

Although there are many viruses out there, if you have one your system doesn't slow down. A virus or spyware is a program like others, it's not aimed at performing resource intensive tasks. However if you have a lot of viruses, trojans, worms and spyware, these programs do slow your system down just because they usually start up along with Windows and there's a lot of them and each needs a bit of resources. So if you don't have an antivirus protecting your computer 24/7 - get one.

If you're not sure whether you have malware on your computer or not, download NoAdware.Net and use it to scan your computer for these programs.

Step 1: How many programs are you running?

What's it good for: speed up pc boot, speed up pc startup, increase overall performance

Spyware is just a special case of a more general problem: too many programs loading at Windows startup. Most of the programs you install don't need to load when your computer boots up. However there are some programs (RealPlayer, Java, Quicktime) that register themselves or some of their components to start automatically each time you boot your computer without even asking you whether you'd like that or not. These components may update that program, or allow you to access it from the system tray, or do something different. In order to remove these programs from the list of programs that start along with Windows itself, Windows has a tool called MSCONFIG. To run MSCONFIG click on the Start button and depending on whether you have Windows XP or Windows Vista either click Run or click on the search field and enter 'msconfig'.

In the MSCONFIG utility switch to the Startup tab and you should see something like the above although with a lot more items, probably. Some of these you may want to disable, others you might prefer to leave starting up. It's up to you which ones you should keep running. If you're not sure whether you should leave or remove some program because you're not sure what it does, there's a great list of programs you may find on the Startup tab along with descriptions of what they do, it can be found here.

Step 2: Changing the size of the page file

What's it good for: speed up program loading

The page file is used so that programs could have more memory than would be available to them if Windows only used physical memory. By default Windows chooses the size of the page file in the way it thinks is best and when that is not enough the file is expanded. However this way the file is susceptible to fragmentation described below. So before doing the next step it's better to first set up Windows so it uses a fixed size page file.

To do this you have to do the following:

Click Start, right click on the Computer icon and choose Properties.
If you're using Windows Vista click Advanced system settings on the left, if not skip this step.
In the window that appeared click on the Advanced tab and click Settings under the Performance section.
Click on the Advanced tab in the Performance Options window and click Change under the Virtual Memory section.
If you're using Windows Vista untick the box that says "Automatically manage the page file size on all drives".
Choose drive C: and click on the "Custom size" option.

It's generally a good idea to enter twice the amount of recommended memory as both the initial memory and the maximum memory. The recommended memory is stated in the "Total paging file size for all drives" section. After entering the values click OK and restart your computer.

Step 3: Defragmenting the hard drive

What's it good for: speed up disk operations, program loading

Disk fragmentation occurs when a file needs to be broken up into several fragments in order to be stored on the hard drive. Due to the way hard drives work, fragmentation means it will take more time to read a file from the hard drive. If you'd like to know more about why this happens, you can read the entry from Wikipedia.

To defragment the hard drive Windows contains a tool called Windows Defragmenter. However, I recommend using Diskeeper 2008, since it's quite a lot better than the default Windows Defragmenter (you can look at the comparison chart here). Unfortunately it's not free so here are instructions on how to run the Windows Defragmenter.

To defragment using the Windows Defragmenter for Windows XP, click Start, click Run and enter 'dfrg.msc', in the Disk Defragmenter choose drive C: and click Defragment.

If you're using Windows Vista, then to run the defragmenter click Start and enter 'dfrgui' in the search field. In the Disk Defragmenter click the Defragment Now button.

Step 4: Fixing registry errors

What's it good for: speed up pc boot, speed up pc startup

The Windows Registry was introduced along with Windows 95 as a replacement for all the ini files that were used for storing configuration options before. The registry is a centralized place for all of the configuration options not just for windows itself but also for all other programs. There are some benefits of this approach, but also there are disadvantages. For example not all of the programs uninstall correctly, file associations, options specific to the program, some changes to the operating system a program makes and other things may be left behind. As a result of this the registry becomes bloated with garbage, and because the registry is loaded into memory as a whole, the bigger the registry the more time it takes to read it. So the registry should be cleaned routinely. Unfortunately there is no tool in Windows to do this, so I would recommend using RegEasy for this purpose.

Step 5: Taking it one step further: Windows services

What's it good for: speed up pc boot/startup, increase overall pc performance

Windows has these special programs called "services". Some of them you need enabled, others you don't. However, the services are what the system depends on, and if disabling the programs that run on startup only disabled these programs and the worst thing that could happen if you disabled the one you need was that your iTunes could stop automatically updating, disabling services that you need may prevent Windows from functioning the way it should, so proceed with caution here, and write down which services you are disabling and what their previous state was, so that if something goes wrong you could return the settings back to what they were by booting into Safe Mode (to do that you have to press F8 when Windows is booting up)

If you're using Windows XP, then click Start, click Run and enter 'services.msc' in the dialog and consult this article on which services you should disable. If you're using Windows Vista then click Start and enter 'services.msc' in the search field and consult this article on what services you should disable.

Visual effects

What's it good for: increase overall performance

In order to speed up Windows even more, you can turn off some or all of the visual effects. This, however, is sacrificing looks for speed. To disable some or all of the visual effects, do the following:

How to Create A Facebook Page

Facebook pages have been getting lots of search engine respect lately. Learn how to create a Facebook page here, since it's rather difficult to figure out how to do it on your own as a newbie!

What is a Facebook Page?

(First off, you'll need a Facebook account!) A Facebook Page, sometimes referred to as a Fan Page, is a single page that you can create for anything you want: a particular subject you like, a celebrity, a business profile, whatever your heart desires. Think of it as a one-page meeting place, with information, links, a message forum box, RSS and anything else you want (actually, it's kind of like making a Squidoo lens!)

Facebook Pages are important for a few reasons. They've been showing up high in search engine positions. Also, you can get unlimited "fans" for your Facebook Page, unlike the limit of 5,000 friends that your regular Facebook Profile is capped at. They're visible to search engines and visitors, too. Oh, and it's an awesome way to create a mailing list that you can take advantage of at any time!

Don't create a Facebook page for a product that is trademarked: Facebook now explicitly disallows unless you are the trademark's owner. If you're looking to create a fan page, Facebook encourages you to use "Facebook Groups" to do so. By not following this rule, you could risk getting your entire account banned!

Facebook Pages vs. Facebook Groups

Which should you use?

"Should I go with a Facebook Page, or a Facebook Group? What's the difference?"

Here comes a personal opinion, from experience: Facebook Pages tend to get more followers than Facebook Groups tend to get members. Why? Well, Facebook Pages are quick and easy to join or "fan," and people tend to join things that relate to them. They also tend to remain a fan of a Page indefinitely.

You may have seen many rather ridiculous pages with hundreds of thousands of fans, such as "Beer," "Fire," "Hugs," "Flipping the pillow over for the cold side," etc. People tend to "fan" things because it adds to their persona and further defines who they are.

Pages Get Internal Promotion on Facebook.com
Facebook Page updates will show up on their front page feed, too. As a marketer or promoter, the reason why that's important doesn't even have to be explained. You may even notice that some of the most popular Pages are never updated whatsoever, their title & the fact that they were the first to think of it was enough to make them wildly popular.

I've found Facebook Pages to get more internal promotion on the live feed page than groups do. Page additions appear on all fans' feeds (unless a fan hides them). They are promoted on the right hand "suggestion" column when your friends join them, and they are designed to look like a regular Facebook profile. Facebook Groups do not get the same amount of love. Groups are promoted only if you visit the "Group" page on Facebook, where a list of recently joined groups appears on the left-hand column.

Pages Have More Options for Customization
Groups are just that - strictly groups. It's basically a mini message board, with a single area where you can post a message that shows at the top of the group. Pages, however, are fully customizable - show or hide whatever you want, or add applications or modules to your Page. This really makes it become more of a mini website than anything else.

The Survival of a Facebook Group
Facebook Groups require interaction to survive, much like a message board. Like Pages, they have many of the same options, except the focus of a Group is the community; whereas the focus of a Page is you and the updates you post to it. Groups are more difficult to maintain, because they tend to get "buried" without constant activity.

Search Engine Visibility
When it comes to getting visibility off of Facebook: Pages can be seen by non-Facebook users, and can be spidered by search engines. Facebook Groups cannot! It's also important to mention that Facebook Pages can have a "vanity URL" (Facebook.com/MyPage), where as Groups do not have this feature.

Anonymity
The creator of a group is forever immortalized on the group itself, with your hyperlinked Facebook avatar, stating that you are the group's admin. There is no way to remove this, which is bad news for those who wish to remain anonymous. Pages, on the other hand, are completely anonymous - nobody will know that you own it, unless you make a public statement!

Here are a couple other reasons why Facebook Pages are so important for any marketing campaign:

By clicking the "Insights" hyperlink to your Page name, you'll get a view of your visitors and their demographics, along with a chart showing its growth rate. Once again, if you're creating Pages for marketing purposes, this is invaluable data that will help your campaign - especially if you're looking to do a little target marketing with Facebook Ads.

Deciding on a Facebook Page or Facebook Group

Here are just a few ideas to help you decide what to do, based on what I've seen throughout my years on Facebook. There's no wrong or right decision, although Pages do tend to get VERY viral, if you've found a broad subject that someone has not created a Page for, yet.

Create a Facebook Page for things like: a broad product category (like boots, VHS tapes or swizzle sticks), a state of being (like "Being Bored," "Italian Americans," "Being over 6'0" tall), a declaration (like "I love bread" or "I hate bad drivers")
Create a Facebook Group for things like: a cause (anti or for something), a local community (your town's baseball league), a discussion forum (religion and politics always fits the bill), a protest ("no more taxes for the lower-middle class in [your town]")

How To Create a Facebook Page

How the Heck Do I Access Facebook Pages?!

At first, it can be confusing to remember how to find Facebook Pages. Seriously, they didn't exactly make it easy. To start off, there's a little toolbar stripe at the bottom of your Facebook screen. Look on the lower left - an icon with an "F" logo in a blue box that says "Applications" can be found. Click it, and you'll see the "Ads and Pages" icon.

You can add Facebook Pages as a "bookmark" directly on that bar, just like I did in the screenshot to your right. To do this, open up that "Applications" pop-up menu, then simply click and drag the "Ads and Pages" icon into the top of the "Bookmarks" list. Alternately, select "Settings" > "Privacy Settings" on the upper right of the screen, then find "Ads and Pages" on the list. Click "Edit Settings" and check the box for "Bookmark Ads and Pages." With the Pages icon bookmarked, you'll have a fast way to access your list of Facebook Pages.

Step 1: Creating a Facebook Page

For some reason, Facebook Pages are not really documented or advertised in an easy-to-find spot on Facebook's site. You'll have to log in to your Facebook account and visit the Create A Facebook Page tool.

Note that there are only a few fields - yet, they are extremely important!

Choose your "category," which determines where your page will be seen in Facebook's directory.

Note: Be sure that you are absolutely happy with the category you've chosen. You're not alone if you think that the category choices for Facebook Pages are awful. Once you make a decision on a category, you can never go back!
Next, pick the "Name" for your page -- and be extremely careful as it is PERMANENT, and will be seen within the actual URL of your Facebook Page (for all of you SEO professionals, you'll immediately see the importance of this).
Fill in the Captcha box and you're done. It really is that quick and simple. However, the customization hasn't even begun!

Step 2: Customize your Facebook Page

Your basic Facebook knowledge is all you need to get through the rest of the customization process. Upload a main image identifying what your Facebook Page is about...add a feed (such as the RSS directly off of the site you're advertising!)...fill in the "Info" box with pure content to appease search engines, and you know the rest!

Remember, all of the "Fans" who "Fan" your Facebook Page can be emailed as a single group, making this an invaluable way to keep in touch with everyone.

Step 3: Promote your Facebook Page

Not technically a step, but this is where you can help Facebook do the dirty work for you, and hopefully rank high in a search engine result. Submit your page to social networking sites like delicious.com, faves.com and of course, any of your favorite dofollow social bookmarking services. Don't forget to advertise your new Facebook Page on your blog, e-mail signatures and forum!

How to Name a Facebook Page

Facebook Page Vanity URLs (new!)

Rename pages to "Facebook.com/YourPage"

On 12:01 A.M., June 13, 2009 - Facebook opened up the option of allowing users to name their Facebook Pages with a vanity URL, in the same fashion of how they were allowed to create a username (Facebook.com/username). However, Facebook put a hefty requirement that created a lot of animosity amongst the internet community: their bone-headed approach to stop cybersquatters was to make it so that only Facebook Pages created before March 2009 AND having 1,000 or more fans were able to be named. As a result, company owners everywhere were up in arms, as anyone who met these requirements were able to take their company name.

The new date for "open" Facebook Page naming to everyone else was June 28th, 2009. However, many Page owners quickly complained about how there was no option to give their Page a vanity URL - whereas several others were able to do so. Currently, all pages need to fulfill the requirement of having at least 100 fans in order to have a vanity URL.

Vanity URL eligibility
Only pages that have at least 100 fans are eligible to have a vanity URL. If you have the ability to advertise your Facebook Page on your website or e-mail footer, it would be in your best interest to attain that number of fans as quickly as possible.

Vanity URLs are not possible for generic, single-word Facebook URLs (like facebook.com/cookies or facebook.com/cars). So, you're limited to compound words or phrases, only (as you guessed it, those short, generic word URLs are probably being reserved for Big Business).

If your Facebook Page is not eligible for naming, you will get the following message: "(pagename) is not eligible for a username at this time. In the future, (pagename) will be able to set a username. Learn more."

Using periods in your Page name
When naming a page, you can only use letters, numbers and periods. Usernames that have periods essentially count both as a "period" and "non-period" version, making it worth your while to use them. For instance, "facebook.com/my.page" also counts as "facebook.com/mypage" - in essence, it's like having two usernames in one. Nobody else will be able to register either, too!

Here's some great news, if you own a registered trademark: Facebook will be extremely helpful in assisting you with a custom URL on a page. All you'll have to do is create a page for your business or trade name (or, if you already have one - that's fine, too)...then, fill out a Username IP Infringement Form. This form requires you to have your trademark registration number ready. Remember, that number is in the form of "01/234567" - simply input it in the "Trademark Registration #" field. Trademark owners are exempt from the "minimum 100 fans" rule for pages!

In the description field, tell the Facebook representative that you are not reporting an infringing user, but you are a trademark owner, and would like to secure the name of your company as a Facebook Page. The representative should reply to you rather quickly - usually within 24 hours, and assist you with getting this task done. I've done it twice - once for the company I work for, and another time for a registered trademark I own, and Facebook has been nothing but helpful and speedy in both situations.

I hear people often say things like, "It's great to be spiritually aware and peaceful, but I still feel there are things I want to achieve, have and do, how do I do that while still being mindful?" Let me be clear, there's nothing wrong with wanting more, its part of our abundant nature. It's the thinking attached to the things we achieve, have or do that leads us astray. Out of this, I've decided to give you a formula that is guaranteed to succeed for you when all 3 elements are in alignment with each other!

The Formula is:

You x (Thoughts + Actions) = Results/Outcomes

Or, Y x (T + A) = R

YOU:

This is the most important part of the equation and involves you being still enough to know exactly what it is that you want. Most people will say they know what they want but in reality there's so much happening around them that it's just something that sounds nice, for e.g. I want a new car.

You need to be crystal clear on what it is that you truly want because without the clarity, you won't have the focus required. So go into a quiet room, sit in a comfortable chair, close your eyes and ask the question, "What is it that I truly want?" If other thoughts come in, allow them to pass through and keep asking the question. You'll know when you have the right answer because it will fill you with enthusiasm and excitement.

If no answer comes, then leave it and return to it tomorrow, spend at least 15 minutes with it each day until something comes. Remember, this is a critical step, the YOU part of this equation is the foundation and your thoughts and actions are surface structures, without a foundation all buildings crumble!

THOUGHTS:

Once you're clear on what it is you want, you need to be vigilant of what you're thinking because the old conditioned (unconscious part) of you will probably not be comfortable with change and will look to sabotage efforts. This is where your mindfulness practice comes in handy, notice the objections that come up in you in wanting to change. In you noticing them, they lose their power to influence you.

ACTIONS:

Action is the final step, unlike a lot of self-help tools out there that say action is the most important aspect of getting what you want. When the steps above are taken care of, action becomes a natural flow from that. You find that you're actually motivated to take action because you're clear about what you wanted and understand the importance of it. Action only becomes work when you're doing something that isn't in alignment with what you really want. Action becomes a pleasure when it is in alignment with what you want and that's something that a lot of people don't experience yet.

Speed Up Browsing
When you connect to a web site your computer sends information back and forth. Some of this information deals with resolving the site name to an IP address, the stuff that TCP/IP really deals with, not words. This is DNS information and is used so that you will not need to ask for the site location each and every time you visit the site. Although Windows XP and Windows XP have a pretty efficient DNS cache, you can increase its overall performance by increasing its size. You can do this with the registry entries below:

DISABLE INDEXING SERVICES

Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don't search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following:

1. Go to Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Control Panel
4. Double-click Add/Remove Programs
5. Click the Add/Remove Window Components
6. Uncheck the Indexing services
7. Click Next

OPTIMISE DISPLAY SETTINGS

Windows XP can look sexy but displaying all the visual items can waste system resources. To optimize:

1.Go to Start
2. Click Settings

4. Click System
5. Click Advanced tab
6. In the Performance tab click Settings
7. Leave only the following ticked:
- Show shadows under menus
- Show shadows under mouse pointer
- Show translucent selection rectangle

SPEEDUP FOLDER BROWSING

You may have noticed that everytime you open my computer to browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers everytime you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing significantly:

1. Open My Computer
2. Click on Tools menu
3. Click on Folder Options
4. Click on the View tab.
5. Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box
6. Click Apply
7. Click Ok
8. Reboot your computer
REMOVE THE DESKTOP PICTURE

Your desktop background consumes a fair amount of memory and can slow the loading time of your system. Removing it will improve performance.

1. Right click on Desktop and select Properties

REMOVE ANNOYING DELETE CONFIRMATION MESSAGES

Although not strictly a performance tweak I love this fix as it makes my machine 'feel' faster. I hate the annoying 'are you sure?' messages that XP displays, especially if I have to use a laptop touchpad to close them. To remove these messages:

1. Right-click on the 'Recycle Bin' on the desktop and then click 'Properties'

2. Clear the 'Display Delete Confirmation Dialog' check box and click 'Ok'

If you do accidently delete a file don't worry as all is not lost. Just go to your Recycle Bin and 'Restore' the file.

Change the Name of "Recycle Bin"

Recycle Bin name is the windows default name of Recycle Bin Desktop Icon. Normally there is no option to change the name of Recycle Bin Icon, but you can rename of Recycle Bin icon name using any windows tweak application or with edit the windows Registry. Always be careful to edit windows registry because any mistake can create problem for windows.
Follow the given steps to change the Recycle Bin name:

â€¢ In regedit editor you will open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder, In this folder open the CLSID folder then open the {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} folder >ShellFolder folder at last.
